The Link EckiS had provided in response to my post is a good discussion of the issue. I finally did get my IT department to change the Group Policy Updates for the drive maps from "Replace" to "Update" or "Refresh" and that has solved the issue on my Windows 10 computer.
So I read about this problem and found the group policy solution. The "solution" above is no help because this is occurring on my home-office desktop. I'm in these files all day long and it is easiest to leave File Explorer open as I'm accessing various files. Several times a day File Explorer will randomly close and I will have to browse through our network structure to get back to the folder that I'm working in.
To make matters worse, every time this happens it causes problems with files I have open PDF pages go blank and I then have to close the files and re-open everything. This has been happening up to 20 times a day and doesn't matter which folder on the network I'm in or which files I have open.
How can I keep File Explorer from doing this? Tuesday, January 29, PM. Hi, Thanks for your post in our forum. Firstly, did it only happen on those shared folders? Or also the local folder? Hope above information can help you.

Because I never set it up to run on it's own. I also checked in the disk cleanup and my downloads folder was unchecked.
Is there anyway to see a log of all the files that have been deleted on my PC? The problems started after I decided to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and keep all my files. Could the 4 files left in downloads folder after all the other ones were deleted, were cleaned up by these files. Are you running BootCamp on a Mac? The reason I ask is that those folders appear to be for Yosemite and Sierra which are Apple versions, and Redstone which is a Windows 10 version.
So perhaps an Upgrade you did in Bootcamp or an attempt to install that replaced your Downloads with those folders. However I have to tell you that I've seen almost everything in forums daily over 10 years time, and I have not seen this before. The only way I know that WIndows could single out your Downloads folder for deletion is if Storage Sense is preset for this, then run during automatic maintenance.
IF Disk Cleanup also had Downloads preset to delete which you said yours did not then it's possible it could have done this. Whatever it is is something very odd, and looks like it's related to a Version Update or Bootcamp since it left those folders in your downloads. I just ran Avast anti-virus and got some errors here's what I got.
I don't think a file can delete files in a directory. As I said before, there is only two ways I know that this can happen and it seems they were eliminated.
